What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ?
-To be giving of others
-To take no thought of earthly things and lay up treasures in Heaven
-To seek the Kingdom of God
-To have loins girded about (to be prepared with good principles)
-To have the light of Christ burning
-To have faith in Christ
-To love Jesus Christ more than anything or anyone else in life
-To bear own cross, to carry own burdens and follow Christ
-To forsake all that he hath
Christ said about counting the costs to follow Him, that if we cannot forsake all that we have, we cannot be His disciples.
I am not going to lie, I can be pretty self-serving and self-centered at times. I don't think that I am anything amazing, but I unintentionally don't listen to others and I compare myself to others sometimes. I also care too much about little things that don't even matter which tends to stress me out or make me a little angry at times. If I were to forsake all that I have and truly focus on Christ in all things, my life would change. If I were to not care about minor incidents and just let go, I would have so much more time and heart to do better things. In all, trying to serve Christ and my Heavenly Father and having Christ as my rock and foundation, striving to obey and follow His teachings, I would be less stressed, less angry, less non-forgiving, and more others, more close to Christ.
To ultimately be a disciple of Christ, similar to what Elder Bednar once said, means to give all that you are and all that you will become to Christ.
